Please needs to know how to avoid nitrogen looses during/before applying Urea fertilizers in rice plantations. Any best practices that farmers can be use before/during applying fertilizers (Urea)?
Hello sir Nelson, Nitrogen is the most volatile nutrient needed by the rice plants, so to avoid the great loss of this nutrient you may split the application to 2-3 time. It also important to apply at the right time, so you may use leaf color chart (LCC) to monitor the nitrogen needs of your plant. Right water management also helps, before fertilizer application, water level should be at 2-3 cm to reduce the percolation and the fertilizer granules will be dropped in the soil and will be covered. Hello Gilsan, Pwede naman pong maglagay ng goat manure sa palayan, mas mainam po sana na decomposed na ang mga ito at dapat ihalong mabuti sa lupa sa panahon ng paghahanda ng lupa. Possible po kasi na maging source ito ng mga damo dahil nakakakain sila ng mga buto ng damo. Kaya mainam na maihalong mabuti at magkaroon pa ng panahon na makatubo ang mga damo bago ang huling pagpapatag ng lupa para mapuksa po ang mga tumutubong damo.Maari din po kayong magtanong sa PhilRice Text Center sa numerong 0920 911 1398.

Using light trapping, RBB are strongly attracted to high intensity light, It should be done 2 days before until 3 days after the full moon. During the outbreaks, it should be set up every night. Conservation of natural enemies. Conserve beneficial organism by minimizing pesticide use. Beneficial insects help keep RBB population down. Herding of ducks in the field. Ducks feed on RBB.

Please I’ve seen fertilizers Urea prill/granules, which one is the most preferably efficient to use in rice plantations. What are their advantages and disadvantages when using in rice plantations.
Hello Sir Nelson, technically, both prill and granular form of urea are efficient in rice production. Here in the Philippines, where the method of application is generally manual broadcasting the factors to consider is the skill of the farmer in broadcasting evenly the fertilizer is very important. But in some countries that uses machines in spreading fertilizer, prill form is more advantageous.
